Build an Audience Online as a Developer
Introduction
Building an audience online for you can be very beneficial in terms of finance and collaborating with other people in tech. Selling digital products is one of the methods that you can use to earn money online. As a developer, there are various ways that you can use to build your audience. As the audience grows you can start with selling product or promoting your product.
So, today we are going to look into options for building your audience online as a developer. Let’s get started.
Social Media
You can create content on social media such as Twitter and LinkedIn to increase your connection and followers. This platform has an awesome developer community, especially Twitter. You can tweet daily, engage with other accounts, and post value threads and tips on the platform.
Creating a connection on LinkedIn is easier than getting followers on Twitter. It can be different sometimes. Experiment with both to see where you get the most engagement to focus more on that. Also, never leave other platforms. You should use scheduling tools like Typefully or Feedhive to write posts in one place and schedule them for both platforms.
Blogging
Creating a blog page online that people subscribe to and read is quite effective. You can build more loyal followers by creating a blog as the content is long. There are various CMS such as Wordpress and Ghost that you can use to host your blog. Also, there are platforms such as dev .to, Medium, and Hashnode where you already audience where you can write technical articles.
It will also give you the opportunity to write sponsored posts on your or another's blogging platform. I have written an ebook that you can get from GumRoad to learn more about writing technical articles. Here is it Zero to Hero in Technical Writing: Making Consistent Income.
Newsletter
It is another useful method to build your audience. It can depend on the above platform to get the user’s signup to the newsletter. But it can be independent with effective marketing. You should build around 1000 subscriber newsletters first then start monetizing it. You can later add sponsored posts/ads section to your newsletter to sell to the ad placement.
You should not create a newsletter around a curated list but provide the value that you have. Don’t be generic find a niche in the development field to create a newsletter.
Open Source
You can build your audience on GitHub by creating projects and codebase that are useful to developers. You can also collaborate with others by contributing to different projects. As per your project, you can add a sponsored section in your readme. This will help you in earning money through your project.
Conclusion
These are the methods that I find are the ones that can help you in building a better audience for you. I hope this newsletter has provided value to you. Please share with others or social media if you enjoy it. Thanks for reading it.
