Unlocking the Power of Content Repurposing
Introduction
There are various platforms where you can share your technical knowledge with the world and build an audience. However, it is kind of hard to create different content for different platforms. The audience can be different but the interest of the audience will be similar on the platform. So, create one content and share it across different platforms. In this case, content repurposing can be useful.
Content repurposing is the practice of taking existing content and adapting it into different formats or versions to reach a wider audience or extend its shelf life. Instead of creating entirely new content from scratch, repurposing involves recycling and reusing your existing valuable content in creative ways.
So, in this article, I am going to guide you on how you can create a blog and adapt it for different platforms. Let’s get started.
Blog
Creating an in-depth blog should be your first content that covers most of the things that you want to share with the audience. Blogs can be easily re-purposed into different formats easily with minimum effort. It will be harder if you try to convert small content such as Twitter threads into a blog.
There are various platforms where you can share your blog. A few of them are dev_to, Hashnode, Medium, and tealfeed. Share on multiple platforms to maximize reach.
Website
If you have a website, you should also post the same article as it is on the website. You should set your website’s article as the original copy of the article on the internet. You can do that by using a canonical URL.
When you post on platforms like dev_to and Hashnode you will get options to add canonical URLs. A canonical URL points to the webpage that is the original copy of the article/webpage. You should enter the URL of the article on your website. This will help in SEO.
I have discussed this in detail in my ebook along with other topics that can help a developer break into technical Writing. Get it here👇
Zero to Hero in Technical Writing: Making Consistent Income
Twitter/X
Twitter/X has a large community of developers making it a suitable platform to post about technical stuff. You can convert your article into a thread format. Break your article into chunks. You should not put everything from the article. Be clever in summarizing sub-topics into concise words to fit the Twitter/X length size.
At the end of the thread, you can give the link to the in-depth article. If any user wants more details then can get it from the article.
LinkedIn
Same as Twitter/X, you have an awesome developer community here. You can convert your article into a post with summarization as goes with Twitter/X post. You can copy the summary content from threads directly to Linked but in one single post.
You can also provide links to the article too.
Conclusion
Content repurposing is an invaluable strategy for sharing your technical knowledge and building a dedicated audience across various platforms. Rather than creating entirely new content for each platform, you can efficiently adapt and recycle your existing valuable content to reach a broader audience while maintaining the interest of your target audience.
You can also expand your horizons to reach more platforms such as Instagram with visual carousel posts or reels. See, how it works for you.
